I started working in web development in 2001. My projects have been varied: a retail statistics ASP.Net web application, an insurance statistics reporting website, a legal library system, e-learning, e-commerce and custom CMS websites. I code in ASP.Net 2.0 VB.Net, Ajax, DHTML, JavaScript and CSS. I also use Visual Studio, SQL Server 2005, SourceSafe at work and SubVersion at home.

  • Followed the Scrum method to work in an Agile team.
  • Migrated a large ASP3 web appplication to ASP.Net 2.0 VB.Net.
  • Developed new retail statistics reports in VB.Net.
  • Wrote a testing matrix to check different reports work as expected.
  • Outlined how to enhance the Google ranking of the public website promoting our retail statistics web application.
  • Researched which performance counters should be monitored to check how well our website runs and investigate what causes errors.
  • Secured code using querystrings against SQL injection attacks.
January 2006 - March 2008

Axco Insurance Information Services (London)
  • Developed a web application from the ground up: Axco Global Statistics. I worked on the whole life cycle from initial requirements to development and delivery.
  • Interfaced Excel with web applications to load and export data.
  • Tuned SQL Server performance for complex reporting tasks, reducing execution times by a factor of 10 in some cases. Regular use of "SQL Server Profile" tool (SQL 2005 name to be confirmed) to check indexing and build new indexes where necesssary.
  • Managed the transition of Axco suite of web applications to Rackspace. This involved working weekends and careful planning to minimise the impact on our users. I also setup ASP PDF generator, OWC (Office Web Components), Application Pools and FTP accounts.
  • Created and documented the standard with which Axco developer write code: VBScript classes and stored procedures to allow for code reuse and ease the development, maintenance and enhancement processes.
  • Documented the requirements of my project from meeting notes and planned the delivery of our work to tight schedules. On my initiative, all Axco developers started to log hours against projects and their time allocation.
  • Improved several existing web applications with better functionalities for the data administrators and more usable reports for Axco clients.

  • Developed content management systems, e-commerce websites and intranets.
  • Worked with ASP VBScript, JavaScript, SQL Server, IIS (Internet Information Services), Visual Studio and Source Safe.
  • Produced work plans, rigorous test scenarios and high quality live implementation documentation. I was often given live release management responsibilities.
  • Started to learn and use ASP.Net, VB.Net and DNS (Domain Name Services).
  • Helped to develop the Quality Management System for ISO 2001 accreditation.
  • Dabbled in Search Engine Optimization and some XML.
